Overview

About This System

At Keele University Energy Park, our team designed and manufactured the ground-mounted solar mounting system for this 5.5MW solar project, working with Equans Regeneration for Keele University. We supplied our HTR System 4.1 – 4 in landscape system with driven pile foundations.

Our challenge was to design, manufacture and deliver 235 solar tables at short notice, with each table supporting 52 PV modules. The site also included varying slopes of approximately 8° to 12° in two directions, so our mounting system needed to adapt to the changing ground profile while remaining practical to manufacture and install.

During the build, an untested area of the site showed insufficient uplift resistance in a small number of driven piles. Our team responded by testing and deploying our secondary restraint system, allowing the installation to continue with a site-specific solution to the foundation issue.

Throughout the project, we worked closely with our customer and the third-party installation team to help maintain build quality across the site. This project reflects the way we work at HTR Solar — combining solar mounting system design, UK manufacturing and practical engineering support to respond to real site conditions and keep projects moving.

The Site

Key Engineering Challenges

  • Variable ground conditions and site slopes – Our ground-mounted solar mounting system needed to accommodate slopes ranging from approximately 8° to 12° in two different directions.

  • Driven pile uplift resistance – An untested area of the site revealed insufficient uplift resistance in a small number of driven pile foundations, requiring our team to respond during construction.

  • Site-specific foundation solution – We tested and deployed our secondary restraint system during the build to address the localised pile uplift issue and support the solar mounting installation.

  • Fast design and manufacturing programme – Our team had to design, manufacture and deliver 235 solar tables at short notice, with each table supporting 52 PV modules.
