Gabion Basket

Foundation System

A steel mesh basket filled with ballast material on site, providing a non-driven foundation solution for ground-mounted solar PV systems.

Overview

Gabion basket foundations provide a ballasted, non-driven foundation solution for ground-mounted solar PV systems, using stone-filled baskets to provide the required stabilising mass. They offer a practical alternative where conventional driven foundations may be unsuitable due to site or project conditions.

At HTR Solar, our gabion basket foundation solutions are engineered around the mounting system, structural requirements and site conditions of each project. Basket arrangement, ballast requirements, upright positioning and connection details are defined through project-specific drawings and structural design documentation.

Our gabion basket foundations integrate with HTR Solar mounting systems, providing a coordinated connection between the foundation and above-ground solar mounting structure. The baskets are filled with specified stone or suitable ballast material to provide the required stabilising weight as part of the project-specific foundation design.

Why Choose Our Gabion Basket Foundations?

  • Non-Driven Foundation Solution

Gabion basket foundations provide a ballasted foundation approach that can be used where specified by the project design, expanding the range of foundation solutions available for HTR Solar mounting systems.

  • Project-Specific Engineering

Basket size, ballast type, fill level, upright height, connection arrangement and fixing details are determined according to the requirements of the individual project.

  • Integrated with HTR Solar Mounting Systems

Our gabion basket foundations are designed to work with the HTR Solar above-ground mounting structure, providing a coordinated foundation-to-frame solution.

  • Defined Installation Requirements

The foundation assembly is positioned and aligned before the gabion basket is filled with the specified ballast material, while maintaining the required upright position, height and alignment.

  • Flexible Foundation Approach

Gabion basket foundations can also form part of an HTR hybrid foundation solution, allowing different foundation types to be incorporated within the same table, row or project area where required by the approved design.

Site Conditions & Gabion Basket Foundation Design

Every solar site presents different conditions and structural requirements, so our gabion basket foundation solutions are developed around the needs of each project. Basket arrangement, ballast requirements and foundation-to-frame connections are coordinated with the solar mounting system design, providing an integrated approach between the foundation and above-ground structure. Where different foundation requirements occur across a site, gabion baskets can also be incorporated into a hybrid foundation arrangement alongside other HTR foundation solutions where specified by the project design.

Gabion Basket Installation & Site Support

Accurate positioning and installation are important to the performance of the complete solar mounting structure. HTR Solar defines the foundation position, basket arrangement, upright requirements and connection details through project-specific documentation. During installation, ballast material is placed evenly within the basket to help maintain its form and the position and alignment of the upright. Final checks confirm foundation stability and the required upright height, plumb and orientation.
