HTR Solar is delighted and honoured to have been part of the winning team at the Construction Excellence Awards – Midlands West 2025, where the Birmingham Airport solar PV project was awarded Infrastructure Project of the Year.
Recognised ahead of other major infrastructure projects, including HS2, the Birmingham Airport project delivered the largest airside solar PV system in the UK, demonstrating the successful integration of renewable energy within a complex and highly regulated aviation environment.
The project presented significant challenges, including installation across slopes of up to 18 degrees during one of the wettest winters on record. The team also worked within a live airport environment, maintaining strict separation from moving aircraft while meeting demanding Civil Aviation requirements.
HTR Solar was trusted to design, manufacture and install the solar PV mounting solution, providing a system engineered around the challenging site conditions and operational requirements of the project.
The installation supports Birmingham Airport’s energy requirements and wider Net Zero ambitions, while demonstrating what can be achieved through collaboration, engineering expertise and UK manufacturing.
